Ear Reduction (Otoplasty)/ Ear Lobe Repair

About Ear Reduction (“Otoplasty”) & Earlobe Repair

Overview of the Procedure
Otoplasty, or Ear Reduction, is a procedure that alters the appearance, position, and size of the ears. Ear surgery is preformed to correct abnormalities or cosmetic imperfections, or simply pulling the ears tighter to the head.

Reasons for the Procedure
Patients may be dissatisfied with the appearance of their ears – they may consider the ears to be too large or prominent. Additionally, the earlobes may have torn through and need to be corrected.

What to Expect
The nature and extent of the surgery depends on the issues with the ears. Cartilage may be removed or reshaped. Bandages are applied around the head.

Recovery
Bruising and swelling will occur. Pain can be managed with medication. Strenuous activity should be avoided for several weeks. You will likely need to wear a head wrap bandage for about a week, and sleep with one for about 6 weeks after surgery.
