About Laser Skin Resurfacing for Wrinkles & Scars

Overview of the Procedure
Laser skin resurfacing treats wrinkles, scars, and discoloration, minimizing their appearance.

Reasons for the Procedure
Patients may be unhappy with the state of their skin. Laser Skin Resurfacing is an option for individuals who want to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe scars or other imperfections.

What to Expect
You may need to use cream skin treatments on your face (Retin-A or Solaquin) in the weeks prior to your procedure. General anesthesia or IV sedation is used for laser skin resurfacing to minimize pain. During the procedure, a laser is placed over the skin that is to be corrected, removing the damaged layers of skin. This allows new skin to grow with minimal scarring.

Recovery
Swelling and discomfort can be managed with medication and ice packs. The treated areas of skin may scab or turn pink. You may need to apply skin cream or bandages. Avoid the sun and use sunscreen for several months. The skin may stay red or pink for up to two months post-op.
